Kim Abernethy is an oil painter whose impressionistic style evokes feelings of serenity and calm. Her work draws upon a sense of familiarity and connects the viewer to a moment in time captured on canvas, be it ordinary or extraordinary. Whether she is painting in the High Country of North Carolina or the Low Country of South Carolina, the experience of creating art outdoors connects her to the work and allows her to convey a strong sense of time and place. She expands on this experience by using the plein air works, along with sketches and reference photos taken on site, to create larger works in her studio. Her artistic goal is to “capture the moment of awe that took my breath away and bring the viewer to that place with me.” Kim Abernethy is a juried member of Oil Painters of America, Women Painters of the Southeast, and the American Impressionist Society.
