Block printing is a creative art form that is easily mastered. Once you create your desired artwork—whether it is a specific, detailed image or a creative, free-form design of lines and shapes—your image can be printed and reprinted. That is the beauty of block prints that has appealed to artists throughout history, from Rembrandt to Picasso.

Some of the topics that we will cover are: working with positive and negative space; cutting the blocks and using various tools to achieve different lines; applying inks using Akua, water-based, non-toxic inks; choosing and applying printmaking papers and printing the image by hand

You will be able to create and print your own work of art. Bring a simple outline sketch if you wish or wait to be inspired following suggestions and examples in the class. Most participants will go home with multiple copies of their completed artwork. Block printing really is easy and fun. The materials fee of $20 is included in the price and will provide each participant with a 4×6 easy-to-carve block, five sheets of printing paper and a personal set of cutting tools, which you may take home. The instructor will provide all other necessary materials (inks, brayers, barens, etc.). All levels are welcome.
