James Monroe Barrett, 60, was taken into custody after a manhunt. He was receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during a standoff with law enforcement and has since died. Barrett has a criminal record that dates back to the 1970s.

Deputies responded to a call about a domestic dispute involving Barrett at 5:55 a.m. That's when he opened fire.

Barrett is also believed to have set a house on fire before fleeing into the woods.

The deputy who was shot has been identified as Sgt. Russell. He was airlifted from the scene.

Four people besides Sgt. Russell and the suspect were injured. No word on their conditions.

Thanks nwnc08, you remind me why I never post.. It wouldn't be very difficult to give accurate information or none at all. All that was being asked was if the shooter was still at large or if they KNEW where he was, very simple information to post in an article. Im very aware this isn't the officers/fire dept/etc fault, but rather the news station. Shame people have questions on a forum for questions.... I hope your day gets better and you learn not to be a complete jerk especially in situations where people are just wanting to know important information due to living in the area or having people they know live/work in the area.

Good news though, the latest article says the suspect is still on the loose but officers have an eye on him in the woods near River Ridge Road. Hopefully this information is accurate and everything stays under control. Praying for the safety of all involved and the families of those who have been affected.

My point was (not that it matters), people aren't "stupid" for wanting to know what's going on.

That's where my ex is living now in Ronda. I hope whoever did this has been caught and is not on the loose.

as far as public safety .... at this point and until verified information is available, it might be prudent to act as if the person has not be arrested. lock your doors, bring a dog inside, or do whatever you would naturally do to feel safe.
