Horrible things have been done to pets on their own property, and that is very sad. Several years ago, in another state, my pets were threatened for no reason by a couple punks. The punks were visiting next door. A privacy fence enclosed the pets. Anyway, the police did NOT mess around in this city, and they came out and backed those little a-holes against their car, and took their pictures, and gave a very clear warning. Too bad that law enforcement in my county aren't that efficient.

Sorry you have to deal with sorry parents. It sounds like you handled it right though. I am with you in making sure it is dealt with. It sounds like the parents didn't spank sense into their kids while they were children. Now an adult may have to beat a little sense into them while they are adults. That is what I would do.

This situation would be considered "community-based harassment" if the perps were a little older.

My family, which includes my animals, has been harassed for almost two years by a couple of well-to-do local "boys" (high school/college age). The harassment began with the animals.

I did attempt to deal with the parents of one of them, and he pretty much stonewalled for the kid in a menacing manner (while the kid and his friends sniggered in the background). The situation has not improved, but I will see it dealt with, one way or the other.

I can recognize a prick-in-training when I see one. Unfortunately, we're all burdened, to varying degrees, with the lack of common sense, compassion, and humility that results from sorry parenting.

Lets refresh panty boys memory

Any rational person knows there is a big difference in an injuring a dog and injuring a kid half their size. The way you deal with this is catch the child, drag him home to the parent and deal with the parent in front of the child. If that doesn't work, then you get the police involved. That is assuming you are a real man which it doesn't sound like is the case anyway.

If an adult ever took violent action of any kind on my children before they were able to defend themselves for any reason (other than if my kids were hurting another person), that adult would have earned the beat down of a lifetime that would have surely followed and all the jail time they would have gotten too.

If this is a teenager who is adult sized and can defend themselves, then yes, I would smack them around enough for them to remember not to do it again before taking them home to deal with the parents. If you pull the trigger of any powder charged firearm on them I hope you rot in jail like you deserve. You are risking the life of a person over the life of an animal and that means you are too stupid to deserve to live with people. You deserve to live and die with other animals in jail.

The op used hypothetical situations, you use violence toward adults and children. So are you threatening the op because these are your kids panty boy? Again the law is not yours to enforce.

No one has ever said that the original poster shouldn't have to worry about his dog in his own yard. I haven't defended the children doing this at all. As I said, go to the parents first and if that doesn't work police second.

The bigger problem is an adult who harm a child. That is the type of psycho we should worry about more. A child with a BB gun shooting a dog is a problem that should be dealt with like I said. An adult threatening to shoot a child with a shotgun is a much much larger problem that should be dealt with first. For the safety of the public that type of person should at least have their guns removed. It is a small leap from threatening to shoot a kid to ending up doing it.

Wouldn't you at least admit that murder is an overreaction here? Don't you hold adults actions to a higher standard than that of a child's?
