Commish the same could be said for each division that is below the next. The 3A teams would say youre fortunate to be in 2A, because it takes less kids to compete as it does in 3a. Thats statement easily has a snowball effect within each descending classification.

That comes down to coaching. If you have a coach that knows how to motivate kids to perform on the field while at the same time allows them to be kids and have fun then your program will be successful and have the numbers needed for adequate depth. That is the problem that we have in Ashe. The Hampton/Piscapoe regime has a hard time keeping their players returning let alone the kids that have played in the past and any new ones that may have an interest. We have enough talent roaming the halls at ACHS to win the conference every year but where is the motivation to get them to come out. There isn't any!! That's why they all hang out in the Walmart parking lot after school and on Friday nights!! Coach Hampton needs to adjust his attitude and start letting them have some fun while playing or the program will fail and that is close to happening now. Playing football isn't easy, practice isn't easy and it shouldn't be but to partner the difficulty of the sport with a coach who isn't any fun to be around and clearly shows partiality to certain athletes and athletes families that's a recipe for disaster. That is why we have 25 kids on varsity and the majority of them are underclassmen. By the time those kids are seniors half won't be playing because they have figured it out and get tired of being used so the QB and the star WR can get praised daily!!

A change in team/coaching philosophy needs to occur soon!

WC has made 2nd and 3rd round playoff appearances and then was ousted by teams like Lincolnton and East Lincoln who both went on to regional and state finals in their respective years. EW had a great run last season and played well enough to beat Mitchell but just ran out of gas. Starmount has been to state championships within the last 6-8 years and so has other area teams like West Stokes so football is not terrible in the northwest but it isn't the same level of competition as when you get to the bigger 2a, 3a and 4a schools just a few miles down the road. EW has done well at the 1a level and the football program has done well maximizing the number of kids who come out to play football and if WC needs to mimic anything that EW does, it is figuring out how to get everyone who can help your football program onto the field. EW has that figured out and it is helping them be successful.

We use that caliber of athlete term loosely around here. WC has better athletes but thats not saying much. Does that guarantee a win? heck no, its not like they are loaded across the board. they have a few decent athletes. and EW is fortunate to be in 1A, It doesnt take but a few skilled kids to compete.

I mean to be "real" WC has been way more consistent and competitive in the playoffs than East Wilkes lol. It's actually not even close. Eish nothing but the best for East though! But they do not have the caliber of athletes that Central has. Coaching and depth is defintley an advantage however.

East isnt fortunate to be 1a. That happens when you have less kids. You compete with schools your size. The unfortunate thing is, we are debating about a school the size of Wilkes Central with 200 plus more kids competing with EW. It should be a foregone conclusion, but it's not. And as far as atheletes, lets be real, if WC was that more atheletic, then they would compete consistently in the playoffs with the teams their size. We wouldnt be talkin about how weak the conference is year in and year out. Wilkesboro is not a huge metropolis, so the difference in atheletes from the other schools in Wilkes and WC are not as pronounced as you want to believe or as they should be to be honest with you. Ew will compete with Wc believe or not. Weak conference or not.

WC has more athletes, EW has more kids....in the grand scheme of a season, depth can play a role but lets be honest..the number 28-40th kids are practice dummies. They wont see the field in meaningful minutes. For one game, I will take WC...as far as the conference goes, we are very weak as a whole. one and dones for everyone cept for maybe EW who is fortunate to be 1A

CWMS fan. You seem knowledegeable, but do you really think that if you more quality depth especially in the trenches, where the game is won that it doesnt matter. So, youre saying that a 250 lb lineman playing both ways is as fresh as a quality lineman that is dedicated to one side of the ball? It doesnt matter against teams that arent that good, but it does matter against quality opponents. The reason you lost to EW was half time adjustments thats true. Also you had your stat rb playing Lb the whole game trying to tackle a 6'3" 230 lb fb all game as well. He was spent and missed several tackles in the second half. So keep thinking that quality depth doesnt matter. Matter of fact try to sell that story to any coach that has 20 players on a squad versus a team with 40 or so. Even the practices between the team become more involved and intense. Def not sayin EW will win, but depth matters against quality opponents.

Depth had zero bearing on last year's game. In game adjustments made by East on offense and defense was the primary difference. Platooning players is a great strategy and has some benefits but it won't matter this year either. The better prepared team will win because I feel they match up well at the skill positions.

Speaking of more athletes/players, this game could be like last years. Wilkes Central started out hot, but it was EW overall depth and two platoon offense/defense system that shut central completely down in the second half. EW has 40+ players. Yes, its's the smallest school in the county, and it also has more players than all 3 of the other bigger schools. Depth matters late in the game.

The hands are down...I am still awaiting the air raid to decimate the conference..when the great air raid teams are called out from way up high As he will be standing there listening, and listening, and listening, and listening.....

Nobody will sleep on EW. They are still the MVAC champs until someone takes that away. As with EW, Central shouldn't been in a dog fight with SC but that is what it was. Patton is better than anybody in our conference offensively but there defense struggled. You could say the same for Central in the MVAC so it should be interesting over the next few weeks.

Believe it or not East Wilkes will be fine against Central. West Wilkes has less speed than EW and Central struggled and barely got by. Patton destroyed WC with a similar option style defense. Surry Central also beat W.Central in basically a turnover free game. EW had six turnovers against S.Central and honestly still should have won but lost by one. W.Central will have a slight speed advantage, but Ew defense is way better than Centrals regardless of who they've played. Central does have home field advantage, and revenge on their minds. Please, dont sleep on E.Wilkes, they believe in themselves.

At this point I don't see East beating Central. They just don't have the athletes to matchup. Ross will be nullified against Central. They've yet to see a team with as much speed as Central will throw at them.

Well if you want to really dig deep. You must remember AC and WHS are 4a and HiHS is 3a. So playing up may get you beat but it will prepare you for a 2a/1a conference. EW is still the team to beat in the conference because they have not been beat in conference.
