I’m glad most of you see it for what it is, marketing.

I looked them up, and their address says they're in city limits:

Seeing how close they are to I-77, I would be surprised if there aren't state laws preventing such a large flag, too.

Is Camping World even in the town limits. I thought it was outside the town limits.

And all they'll do is replace the big flag with a regulation-sized flag, and after it's all said and done, they'll laugh all the way to the bank.

you're right....it is genius marketing also. No publicity is bad publicity.

Anti, in your experience, have you known of many flags that got loose and attacked some car?

I can't honestly say that I've ever seen a flag that was 3,200 square feet. My house is 2400 square feet and is 3 stories tall, so 800 square feet on the ground. This flag is the size of my house and 3 of my neighbors combined!

And, are you certain that the people who wanted to fly a confederate flag were hoping to start a race war ?

One of the articles I linked earlier referred to it, but I don't recall if it was fact or the editors opinion. It's probably irrelevant, anyway.

This is just people getting upset over something that's not worth getting upset over.

In my opinion, it's genius marketing for Camping World. They've got the whole nation talking about a non-issue, and in the end they will probably settle with the courts to take down the flag without paying any fine. So it's a huge amount of free publicity.

I've never bought a camper or wanted to, so I don't even know if I've ever heard of "Camping World" until now.

You just can't pay for this kind of advertising.

as a veteran and a patriot, i hate disrespect to the flag, but i absolutely believe in anyone's right to disrespect it if they want....it's called freedom. A lot of people died for it.

The legal issue is pretty much open and shut. They violated an ordinance that they knew and agreed to beforehand.

They can fly a flag within the size limits and it won't be any less patriotic than the over-sized flag.

To both sides, i would say who cares? but the town has the law on their side if they want to push the issue.

This is just people getting upset over something that's not worth getting upset over.

You can bet your star spangled banner that if someone wanted to hoist a rainbow flag they’d be all for it.

The weight isn’t really an issue.
Nothing else is.

Leftists simply flap their jaws to move the air around.
Especially when it affords an opportunity to strike a blow at a traditional value or symbol of a traditional value.

Don’t ever let em get away with it.

Now think about the weight of that flag. This 30x50' flag (the biggest I could find) is 72lbs:

A 40x80 foot flag folded up would weigh about 87 pounds according to what I looked up and found on amazon. Keep in mind that’s folded but in folded it wouldn’t be that heavy. That flag has flown for years and wasn’t an issue until a lady made a stink over it because she said she got distracted by the flag. Although I get the permit deal I don’t think when it comes to the American flag there should be any permit on the size from the city to me it’s not a banner of advertisement it’s a symbol of our country but that’s my thoughts and opinion.

Rights aren’t expendable like cash. Your analogy is void

I did a google search on “falling flag injury” and got exactly nothing relevant to your concern.

And while we’re at it, if said flag hit a person, it would almost certainly not kill or even badly injure them unless it was still folded in a box.

The aerodynamics of a falling flag would be somewhere between a sheet and a quilt of the same size.

The air beneath the flag would greatly cushion its fall.

There are giant flags flying in a number of locations without incident.

Stop being a ****.

Anti, in your experience, have you known of many flags that got loose and attacked some car?

If so, was it a foreign make ir an American made car ?

And, are you certain that the people who wanted to fly a confederate flag were hoping to start a race war ?

Why does anyone need a permit to fly the American flag???

Read the article I posted. It began with people wanting to fly huge Confederate flags in an attempt to start some sort of race war, so the city created an ordinance to limit the size.

But in this case, just think logically for a second. The flag they're flying is 3,200 square feet! 40' x 80'. It's the size of two doublewide homes.

Now think about the weight of that flag. This 30x50' flag (the biggest I could find) is 72lbs:

The one that Camping World is flying is more than double the size, so it's at least 150lbs.

If it comes loose and lands on a moving vehicle, people are going to wreck and possibly die. Or if it comes loose and lands on someone, that person almost definitely dies.

And if the city has given the permit, they become responsibile.

It's not about patriotism, it's about common sense and responsibility.

you are correct.

But look at like this if I give you a hundred dollar bill, and you burn it do you have a hundred dollar bill ?

You just burnt your money. Does that make sense.

We have lots of symbols. They are just symbols. Short of killing a bald eagle, our nation gives people the right to protest things they disagree with by destroying those symbols to make their points. It is what it is.

Let me dig just a touch deeper, the first amendment of the constitution. Freedom of speech.

This means I can say what I want to, as long as I am not promoting violence. Right ?

So I can use such words as the N word, ****, ****, lesbo, ****. I have a right to do so but I don't. I don't use my rights to offend people. I think its tacky and uncalled for. BUT it is my right.

So if you know that someone might be offended by you choosing your right not to stand for the flag, are you any better than people using names listed above.
