I used to eat often out on Buck Shoals road at Mina's Corner Kitchen.that green spray from the dairy farm being sprayed onto the fields next door did not affect the taste of my food.

I am a person who eats out far more often than the average person. On average I easily eat over 2 meals per day out. Fast food generally is only in the mornings for breakfast. I would say that is about 50% of the time and the other 50% I eat breakfast at a sit down restaurant.

That said I pay attention. For instance there is a place in Winston called Hakka Chow that I first went to about 2 weeks ago. (It is really good by the way. Been there about 4 times in the last 2 weeks) The wait staff who also handles money when you pay your checks also carries your plate to you and puts the utensils into the napkin and stuffs plastic chopsticks into the wrappers. I haven't died yet. Wait staff will cover their mouths when coughing into their hands and then carry your plates/drinks to you. They will pull out chairs for you with their hands and open doors for you (depending on where you go). I have seen the same people pick up other peoples plates to move them closer then carving steaks off spits at Brazilian steakhouses. It is okay.

The only problem I have ever had was at Sticky Fingers (or stinky fingers as I now call it to pick on my wife) in Myrtle Beach. My wife, son, in-laws, and I all got a dose of ecoli. My in-laws said their doctor told them whoever handled our ribs probably didn't wash their hands after using the restroom. Guess what. That happens all the time. We all still alive.

Wow. You are the "cleanest" person I have ever met (or not met in this case).

You pull your chair out with your foot. You go into screaming fits at managers if there are no paper towels in the bathroom, and you never touch bathroom doorknobs (and I assume you call 911 for help when you find yourself in bathrooms whose doors open inward).

Flu season is coming. I hope you have your dust mask ready before going into public. Heck it probably will not matter. With ebola invading our country I am sure you will not leave your bubble without a respirator.

It sounds like Howard Hughes was well adjusted compared to you. No ma'am. There is nothing rational about what you posted.

For those interested, it's also pretty fair to say that if your own kitchen had to be inspected and brought to FDA code, it's doubtful that very many home kitchens would pass.

Two very interesting articles. I don't eat out a whole lot anyway, but when I do I try not to think about who has touched my food. Ignorance is bliss.

I am being rational. And logical. Unless you are wearing fresh/clean gloves, you shouldn't be touching other people's food. In the least it's common courtesy and respectful. There are enough germs and chemically resistant microbes flying around now that we don't need to ignore them or encourage their proliferation.

So on that note, no, I don't touch the chair I normally pull it away from the table with my foot and sit. And no, I don't EVER touch the handle on the bathroom door that is just disgusting. Most people do NOT wash their hands after using the bathroom. If there is no paper including TP, I go out, yell at the manager then re-wash my hands. And no, I normally don't handle my food if it comes in a wrapper, including fries. And I'm not worried about touching the tray as the food-end of the silverware wasn't handled by anyone.

You get exposed to enough without needing others to really push your exposure. There wouldn't be a need for flu vaccinations if people would be more clean. Humans are lazy and dirty animals.

FP, the cloths used to wipe trays and tables may be the same. They must be used with a water clorox solution. If you notice the inspections establishments are written up and lose points quite often because the solution is not strong enough.

bigd

The original poster stated she may be ridiculous about this. She certainly was.

Do you (the original poster) throw a fit if the cashier at McDonalds accidentally has one of her fries touch her hand while carrying them to her tray or if the cashier touches the rim of her cup? Hopefully not because she would be remembered and certainly she would be more concerned about the cooks junk touching her food next time. People who work in restaurants remember the jerks and their food would be messed with latter. That is reality.

Let's be rational here. Have you ever considered the tray you are touching? It has been wiped with the same rag that was used to wipe tables and chairs. That means the tray YOU are touching is dirty and your hands are contaminated. Not to mention the chair you touched, the door coming out of the bathroom, the napkins you are wiping your mouth with were stuffed into a dispenser by the lobby person who last emptied the trash and cleaned the toilets, etc...

The big d, If Styrofoam were so dangerous the epa would have had it outlawed long ago. Razor blades are sharp.

the big d, Correct. Styrofoam is harmful to everything and everybody.
Also, I agree with the cleanliness of handling food, stringbean. We don't eat out anymore..or rarely.

oh yes, styrofoam is an AWESOME choice for your beverage container. Keeping your drinks ARTIC cold and SOLAR hot is what it does best! Boy that extra +/- 2 degrees really makes the difference! Plus that extra 2 minutes of heat or cold makes the world of difference too!!!

That kind of ignorance, thinking that styrofoam is OK to use, is very dangerous.

It's the 5th largest source of hazardous waste in the US, did you know that? And yes, I said HAZARDOUS.

Why hazardous?

It is primarily made of styrene and benzene. These things are proven to cause CANCER in humans. So I hope you enjoy ingesting small particles of cancer-causing materials all your life. Each drink you take may just be the one to start that tumor in your body, that grows slowly inside you over the years until you finally notice it and go to the hospital, where it costs you tens of thousands of dollars in treatment after they find out it has spread all over your body inside and that you are likely not going to survive it.

90,000 workers are estimated to be exposed to Styrene every year. People who work with these chemicals can have medical conditions as a result of exposure to them, caused by a variety of mutations to the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Benzene and Styrene have been linked to incidences of both Parkinson's disease and leukemia. Hope your kids will be born without either of these conditions, or you don't get Parkinson's in your old age.

The production of Styrofoam create large amounts of greenhouse gases. These problems rank the environmental production costs of Styrofoam as SECOND worst in the U.S. by the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), used in the production of Styrofoam, result in air pollution,

causing damage to the ozone layer. They are now known to be 3 - 5 times more dangerous than originally believed.

Microwaving Styrofoam causes the release of toxic chemicals, which pose a threat

to human health as well. Want some pure vaporized Benzene and Styrene mixed in with your food? Nuke those leftovers in the styrofoam container!

Styrofoam is not usually recycled due to its lightweight nature and the high economic cost of transporting and degreasing the petroleum-based material. 30% of landfills are dedicated to plastics, including Styrofoam, which takes at least five hundred years (that's 500, not 50) to decompose

Styrofoam is the main pollutant of oceans, bays, and other United States water sources, causing choking and starvation in wildlife.

SO DRINK FROM YOUR STYROFOAM CUP AND DIE A SLOW, MISERABLE DEATH! You deserve it.

Ignorant fool, just like the ignorant owner of that place where his nieces and nephews work and handle your food, while trying to make a buck by being as cheap and irresponsible as he can.

And, heck, Styrofoam keeps your drink colder or hotter longer......geezzzzzz

thebigd

Posted 11:22 pm, 09/23/2014

Unrelated point, but the owner needs to stop buying styrofoam cups. Very irresponsible and ecologically unsound. So should mcdonald's too but hey who cares as styrofoam is cheaper than biodegradable paper/wax cups.
