National,

The fellow picking corn on Sunday on Sizemore Road recently excuse was that he was a: Seventh Day Adventist: Or that was what his employer said who is a Friends who observes Sunday.

Christian[5] denomination distinguished by its observance of Saturday,[6] the original seventh day of the Judeo-Christian week, as the Sabbath, and by its emphasis on the imminent second coming (advent) of Jesus Christ. The denomination grew out of the Millerite movement in the United States during the middle part of the 19th century and was formally established in 1863.[7] Among its founders was Ellen G. White, whose extensive writings are still held in high regard by the church today.[8]

Much of the theology of the Seventh-day Adventist Church corresponds to common Protestant Christian teachings such as the Trinity and the infallibility of Scripture. Distinctive teachings include the unconscious state of the dead and the doctrine of an investigative judgment. The church is also known for its emphasis on diet and health, its "holistic" understanding of the person,[9] its promotion of religious liberty, and its conservative principles and lifestyle.[10]

It currently has a worldwide baptized membership of about 18.02 million people

I didn't see anybody helping the poor farmer on Lee Ave. cut his soybeans late Friday evening. And according to Jewish custom, Friday sundown is the beginning of the Sabbath.

Empowers, Yes the new testament empowers us to have more freedom than under the old testament laws for example:

http://www.gci.org/law/sabbath

Jesus said that daily chores could be done on the Sabbath (Luke 13:15). Even hard labor could be done in an emergency (Luke 14:5). He told a healed man to carry his sleeping mat, even though there was no hurry (John 5:8). He even used the word "work" to describe his activity (v. 17). Many Christians follow this example. They remember that Jesus consistently criticized the Sabbath rules of the Pharisees, and that he treated it as a ritual law.

Before we see what Paul taught about the Sabbath, let us summarize our observations.

The first place we see a command for the Sabbath is in the law of Moses. The law of Moses contains many commands that Christians do not have to keep.Even laws that came before Moses, such as circumcision, can be obsolete. To see which laws are obsolete, we need to study the New Testament. The New Testament never commands the Sabbath.Jesus always criticizes Sabbath rules, and never tells anyone to be careful about what they do on the Sabbath.Jesus always groups the Sabbath with ceremonial and ritual laws.Peter and Paul could live like Gentiles if they wanted to.Paul said that something about the Ten Commandments was fading away.

13. Christians should not judge one another regarding the Sabbath.

The only time that Paul mentions the Sabbath by name is in Col. 2:16-17. He says, "Therefore, do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ." Here, Paul groups the weekly Sabbath with the annual festivals, the monthly rituals, and eating and drinking restrictions of Judaism.

14. In Christianity, every day may be treated alike.

15. God accepts us on the basis of Christ, not on whether we keep a certain day of the week.

End Quotes:

Empowers the Preachers what folks in Church on Sunday so they can put money in the collection plate.

Those of us who have had to work on Sunday should not feel quilty. Stringbean was wrong to cast stones and he apologized for it. Thanks Stringbean.

Somewhere in the New Testament I remember the directive that if your mule falls in the ditch you should get him out even if it is on the sabbath which to me says that if something is necessary to do go ahead and do it.common sense.

String bean just got a good lesson. This place is tough. Learn and move on. I have respect for string bean but string bean owes no one on this site an apology. He has his right to his opinion be it good bad or ugly.

Stringbean in part posted "I regret ever starting this thread and apologize for it."

I would think, that with those words, Stringbean would not be ridiculed anymore.

string,

so you are longing for those good old days, huh. I guess all the atrocities we see and hear about now, and blog and comment about in goyadkin... are all recent events in, say the last 50 years? back when Mayberry was for real, there were no rapes. no murders. no theft. no animal or child abuse?

those who say it was better "in the good old days" fail to realize that if someone were murdered half a state away, they might not ever hear about it or any other crimes. today, a squirrel can fart in antarctica and someone from CNN will be there to report and then it gets re-tweeted a million times, going viral and ending up getting passed to everyone on the planet.

THAT's the difference between today and "the good old days". Not that there's more crime or people are getting more sick/twisted. They've always been sick and twisted.. you just rarely heard about it. Today, you don't have to move from your lazyboy too see images of kim kardoushian's gigantonormous arse...

Greedy I see I upset you. I now intend to upset you more and show you just how brain washed and stupid you are. You dont have the right to pick and choose who works on sunday and who does not. You also cant have it both ways. Does your church have power? You dont have to have power do you? Oh you must be at one of those little churches that formed to kiss on some snakes. You were asked to leave the big church.

You're such a shallow person to assume I am an atheist.

Is underturd a babbling Atheist ? It sure does sound like it.
The combine boys had a CHOICE. The CHOSE to work on Sunday because they are Godless idiots like the Turd.
The fire Department does not have a CHOICE they HAVE to go put out the fire.
The Dairy farmer HAS to milk his cows.
The Doctors HAVE to save LIVES on Sunday.
The NFL does not have to play on Sunday. Etc, etc......

Need I go ON Turd ?? Go get a job handing out Atheist pamphlets on Sunday or something.

String I hate to point out your misgivings but I will offer one example since you want to throw your religion in the mix. I assume since its sunday and the church you are attending catches fire the fire department should let it burn because its sunday. There are many more string I can offer but this one seems most appropriate for you.

Stringbean, I can totally see what you are saying from the traditional standpoint. We aren't used to seeing these things go on, on a Sunday. Times have changed. Change isn't always for the best. But, you have to remember that each person has to work these things out for themselves. It's not the observance or lack of observance of traditions that lead to morality. It's all in the condition of the individual's heart. Sometimes good people have to work on Sunday.

Advocate, go back and read all of my posts. Nowhere have I quoted ANY scripture as you have accused me of, nor do I intend to.

ALL I have done is to express my opinion, and that hasn't changed.
As for this quote "Your description big silos on Hwy 601 made it look like not so Greedy Smiths was the culprit,"
I have no idea who you are referring to.
Does this Smith you speak of own all of the grain bins along Hwy 601 in Yadkin County?
If so, I suppose it actually was him, but the Smiths I know of who farm on 601, as far as I know, stop their machinery on Sunday.
I regret ever starting this thread and apologize for it.
Reading all the responses has given me a better understanding of how the people in Yadkin County feel.
I have clearly stated how I feel, and that way of thinking is now out of style, so In the future ole Stringbean will become rather scarce around Go Yadkin.
I'm done now, carry on.

I'm with you Stringbean, those combines should have been parked on Sunday. The weather has been more than perfect for weeks to combine those glorious beans. It's all about the money honey! Same goes for those Greedy rich tobacco farmers mudding up the roads right after a heavy rain. Just got a get that dollar..
Greedy ****s. Yes cows have to be milked and eggs have to be picked up but that's a perfect exception.

You are the perfect example of a brain washed idiot. I suppose the farm animals should do without food and water just because its sunday and some idiot working you over from the pulpit told you so? I suppose the fire department should let a house burn down or better yet your church just because its sunday. Some of you idiots never stop and think. When did you get the power to predict the weather.

Stringbean,

Your description big silos on Hwy 601 made it look like not so Greedy Smiths was the culprit when they were not. You were being indiscriminate with our post

Also, you are quoting the Old Testament, Mommatwo has the New Testament version: Times have changed in the past 2014 years. Cars, Electric Power, Gas Stations, Resturants, Jet Planes, many, many businesses run 24/7 just get used to it, or had you rather be back in the stone age? Where did you eat Lunch or Dinner on Sunday after Church? If you cooked lunch at home or ate out in a resturant, you were in violation of the Old Testament. The New Testament made the old one obsolete to a large degree, thanks to Christ . Christ taught mercy and to not cast stones at your neighbor. What sin have you committed that would require that you be stoned to death per the Old Testament?

Some people are so blind. I wonder how many of these idiots nag about a preacher that works every Sunday. There is no difference in a farmer working on Sunday and a preacher working on Sunday.

I apologize for the sarcasm in the original post, I suppose that wasn't the correct way to approach this at all.

I just wanted to speak out about one thing I view as a sign of the constant downhill slide our country is in, that seems to be rapidly picking up speed.
Seems to me that the further away from the Bible we get, the worse things get.
