In the NC House, this bill simplifies the procedure for legally purchasing a handgun, among other things. The Federal Background check remains for all firearm purchases. Permits are ***bersome, requiring two trips to the Sheriff's office and a delay of as much as week.
Rifles and shotguns can be much more powerful than handguns and those long guns do not require the permit. The permit has a fee also.
It is time to update the procedure and this bill helps with that. Criminals do not apply for permits. Permits only hinder the law-abiding citizen.
