Were the fire marshall, the ems director and the highway patrol doing their jobs this problem would not exist. I would throw in the sheriffs department but they are too busy harassing the public and people from wilkes county.

I would also like to point out that for about 15-20 minutes one entire lane of the main road is blocked due to parents waiting in line. I know that probably can't be avoided, but if the line didn't start an hour and a half before dismissal, then it wouldn't be as bad.

I think if fiesta had actually been familiar with the school and layout and the problem, then he would feel pretty silly. There's a lot you can't learn from google maps, lol.

fp, just exactly is your point? Just because you think your opinion is the only one that should count, doesn't mean anyone agrees with you.

And thank you. My point is proven. Lol.

Go park in a fire lane in another city/town and see what happens. Perhaps you should stop and think, is there a sprinkler access blocked by all these cars? Check that out on google maps. You just wasted valuable time trying to find another entrance. Lets treat this like the other thread, how about the school in new mexico. One way in one way out. Most all the schools in Ashe county are this way.

I am sure people more clever than you already have a plan in place for these emergency situations.

Who knows? I'm actually very clever, lol....

I'm not the one concerned over emergency vehicles. My concern was for the way random people seem to be able to sit or wander around the parking lot during school hours without a genuine reason.

Um. Ambulance and fire trucks can enter from bus side. Therefore an ambulance will always have access no matter when people line up to pick up their kids. Fire trucks will too if they need to be on that side.

Fire trucks can park in grass beside swaim road or as pointed out, cars will move for sirens if a fire is on that side of a building. Do you think if a building is on fire that people are just going to sit in a line? Seriously? You said there was only one way out or in. Obviously that isn't the case. You are just making a big deal out of something that isn't. I am sure people more clever than you already have a plan in place for these emergency situations.

Whatever. Women tend to make big deals out of no thing so carry on. Lol

I'm also assuming that you can tell from google maps that in order to go where the buses park that you must use a different road all together. So, if a fire truck tried to go in and realized that everything was blocked on the front entrance, then they would have to drive about a mile and a half in order to access the back entrance. Good plan though. LOL.

Banning parents from school property during any time when their kids are there will never float.

Then we have a problem. A parent should NOT have unlimited access of the school grounds during school hours.

Fiesta, I can see that you are just going to argue because of course you know all you need to from google maps, lol. What your google maps didn't show you is that they park everywhere. They block it all. You can't go in from the exit because that's where they line up. Google maps, lol.

I personally have a child there and I would guess that JSV probably works there. But I can tell that your expertise trumps us all so carry on, lol.

So I just did a quick look at google maps. If an ambulance ever needed to get to the school there are 2 ways in. Through the front or through the back at what appears to be a bus loading area. Access to the school would not be hindered by cars waiting in line. Fire trucks could access the same way. If fire trucks needed to access the other side of the building then they could come in from either direction on N.Swaim and park in the grass.

Like I said earlier, I have never saw a school with only one way out or in. Jonesville elementary is no different.

Satellite views also show 2 parking areas in front of the school. A small 5 or 6 parking space lot (I assume for handicap) and a large lot. I don't know the space count of the large lot and laws require a certain number of handicap spaces for every regular ones. A simple solution to the picking kids up issue could be as easy as turning one of the handicap spaces into a reserved 5 minute parking for pick ups, if legal.

Jvs. The emergency access thing isn't a real issue. It is just like all the people that worried about the rescue squad being able to get out of Main Street when kids were cruising. They had a line open at all times to be able to get out. It never was a real issue.

If there ever was a problem then the fire trucks or whatever could just go in through the exit or the folks in the line could just pull over into the grass or sidewalks. A bigger problem that would delay response times would be getting stuck at traffic lights while trying to go around those waiting for the light to change. This was never a emergency access issue, even if some may think it is. I have driven emergency response vehicles and people always figure out a way to get out of the way pretty quickly.

As far as picking your kids up early, that might be an issue. It could probably be easily resolved if the issue is raised with the superintendent or school board. Banning parents from school property during any time when their kids are there will never float.

Jvs contact the fire marshall and the EMS director and see if they have any balls. I betting not.

Tis True, JVS. I think I could post that it rained at my house last night and there would be one that would think he knows better what happened at my house then I do, lol. It's typical but it's just human nature. The fact is that all this poster knows is what he read in the paper. There are others associated with the school that know the problem. There are people that hang out on the school grounds hours before they need to be there. Most of those people aren't a threat to anyone other then the traffic congestion that they cause. Some however are meth addicts and I think we can all agree that we don't want them socializing in our school parking lots during school hours. Well, most of us could agree on that.....

So typical on this site.....someone expresses a genuine concern and others (usually the same people) change the direction of the discussion by using ridicule, sarcasm, and unrelated conversation. The original issue still remains: too many people arrive way too early to wait long periods of time to pick up children from schools in the afternoon. This indeed creates traffic jams which prohibit school access for about an hour. Let's hope emergency vehicles never need access during this time period to provide medical treatment or to respond to a fire. Have a good summer break parents and kids.

Next you people will want to have no one living within 1000 feet of a school. Erect a fence.

Did you compete in track? You are making some huge leaps there. At least that is what I see knowing nothing about this situation or these people other than what the article you linked says. It says nothing about these people doing anything ON school grounds.
